Changing Degree
Degree বা তুলনা
- Degree বলতে বুঝায় একের সাথে অন্যের তুলনা।Adjective যখন দুই বা ততোধিক Noun-এর মধ্যে গুণ, অবস্থা, পরিমাণা প্রভৃতি বিষয়ের তুলনা করে এবং বিভিন্ন রূপ গ্রহণ করে তখন তাকে degrees of Comparison/ Comparison of Adjective বলে।
<>Degree তিন প্রকার। যথা –
1. Positive Degree
2. Comparative Degree
3. Superlative Degree
1. Positive Degree : যখন তুলনায় না গিয়ে Adjective তার সাধারণ বা স্বাভাবিক গুণ প্রকাশ করে তখন তাকে Adjective এর Positive Degree বলে।
2. Comparative Degree : যখন দুইজন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মধ্যে তুলনায় Adjective ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন তাকে Adjective এর Comparative Degree বলে।
3. Superlative Degree : যখন দুইয়ের অধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মধ্যে তুলনায় Adjective ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন তাকে Adjective এর Superlative Degree বলে।

Rule-1:-
Positive:- No other+L-np+v+as/so +adj-pos+ as+F-np.
Comparative:- L-np/sub+v+adj-com+than+ any /many /all + other+F- np/obj.
Superlative:- L-np/sub+v+the+adj-sup+(of all) +F-np-/obj.
Example :-
i. No other animal is as useful as the cow.
i. The cow is more useful than any other animal.
i. The cow is the most useful animal.
ii. No other mosque in BD is as large as BM.
ii. Baitul Mokarram is larger than any other mosque in Bangladesh.
ii. Baitul Mokarram is the largest mosque in Bangladesh.
iii. No other boy in the class is so/as good as he.
iii. He is better than any other boy in the class.
iii. He is the best boy in the class.
iv. No other city in Bangladesh is so/as large as Dhaka.
iv. Dhaka is larger than all other cities in Bangladesh.
iv. Dhaka is the largestof all cities in Bangladesh.
Rule-2:-
Positive:- Very few/few+L-np+ plural-v+as/so+adj-pos+ as+F-np.
Comparative:- L-np/sub+v+adj-com+ than most other +F-np/obj.
Superlative:- L-np/s+v+one of the+adj-sup+ F-np/obj.
Example:-
i. Very few animals are as strong as lion.
i. The lion is stronger than most other animals.
i. The lion is one of the strongest animals.
Rule-3:-
Positive:- L-np+v+not+as/so+adj-pos+as+F-np
Comparative:- L-np+v+not+adj-com+than+ F-np
Example :-
i. Al-amin is as tall as Onik.
i. Onik is not taller than Al-amin.
Rule-4:-
Positive :- F-np+v+not+as/so+adj +as+ L-np
Comparative :- L-np/sub+v+less/more+adj + than+F-np/obj
Example:-
i. He is not so stupid as his brother.
i. He is less stupid than his brother.
ii. Rimi is as clever as Mim.
ii. Mim is more clever than Rimi.
iii. Eva is as intelligent as Balal.
iii. Eva is not less intelligent than Balal.
Note:- More বসালে obj কে sub আর sub কেobj করতে হবে।
এবং
Positive এ verb এর পরে not না থাকলে Comparative এ verb এর পরে no/not বসাতে হবে।
[F/L-np= First/Last- noun phrase/sub-obj]
